A tummy tuck is technically know as abdominoplasty. It is a procedure used in cosmetic surgery in order to create a firmer abdomen, flatter stomach and a desirable body shape. It is often used by patients who have recently been pregnant or have sagging skin due to recent weight loss, but some people use it to get remove unwanted fat.

Unwanted fat and skin is removed from the lower and middle parts of the abdomen, which tightens up muscles in the abdominal wall. There are numerous types of abdominoplasty, the most appropriate type depends on the amount of fat and skin to be removed. The most common are partial and complete abdominoplasty procedure.

A partial abdominoplasty procedure will only take between one and two hours, whereas a complete abdominoplasty procedure will take between one and five hours, depending on the extent of the fat and skin removal.

Complete abdominoplasty procedures involve cutting from the right to left of the abdomen just above the pelvic area. Another cut is then made from the navel down to the area just above the groin. The skin is then separated and any excess is removed before liposuction is applied to remove fat if necessary; muscles are tightened using surgical stitching (sutures.)

A partial abdominoplasty procedure or mini tuck is a much less invasive surgery. A smaller incision is made and less skin is removed from the body; sutures are also used to tighten muscles. Liposuction may also be used to contour the stomach area.

There are other ways to carry out the surgery. Extended abdominoplasty will also lift the thighs in order to improve body shape. High lateral tension is very advanced but tightens up muscles in a horizontal direction as well as the usual vertical directions. This is particularly good for getting beautifully contoured body shapes.

Circumferential abdominoplasty includes the lifting of the buttocks and the incision is made all around the waistline. This procedure is very effective for people who have experienced a large amount of weight loss and have a lot of sagging and excess skin and muscle. There are also a number of combination procedures that include other parts of the body such as breast lifts, or breast reduction. There is risks involved in these procedure so it is very important to get professional advice before deciding on the surgery Have a look online for cosmetic surgeries that can provide a tummy tuck and request a thorough consultation.
