Michaela DePrince

michaela deprince

Born in Sierra Leone during the civil war, Michaela DePrince grew up in an orphanage with her sister. Her father had been killed by the rebels and her mother starved to death shortly after. DePrince's time in the orphanage was made even more difficult by her vitiligo, a skin condition that causes light blotches on the skin, which caused her treated poorly and called "the devil's child." At just three years old, DePrince found a magazine picture of a beautiful ballet dancer and carried it around with her because she "saw hope in it." When was adopted by a family in the U.S., DePrince quickly began her ballet training. As a teenager, she was featured in the film "First Position," a 2011 American documentary. She has now graduated from the American Ballet Theatre's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and will continue her work at the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

DePrince talked about being a role model to the Associated Press: "Because I've been through so much, I know now that I can make it and I can help other kids who have been in really bad situations realize that they can make it too."

Jack Andraka

jack

Fifteen-year-old Jack Andraka won the 2012 Intel Science Competition, the world's largest high school science research competition, for his groundbreaking research on pancreatic cancer. The Maryland high school student developed a test for pancreatic cancer that is 28 times cheaper and faster, and also 100 times more sensitive, than current tests. When his name was announced in June for the Grand Prize of $75,000, the expression of pure elation on his face was priceless. A video showing his stunned reaction almost immediately went viral. "I did not think I was going to win a single award," he said to Intel. "It's unbelievable, I can't believe this is happening to me. This means so much to me."

Andraka told Wall Street Journal Live about his future plans to patent his test and take it nation-wide: "I'm incredibly excited about that aspect of this endeavor."

Malala Yousafzai

malala preview hospital

This year, Pakistani teen activist Malala Yousafzai's crusade for girls' rights to education -- in the face of threats on her own life -- brought education and women's rights into the global spotlight. The 15-year-old was shot in the head in a Taliban assassination attempt in early October because she spoke out about universal educational rights through a series of anonymous blog posts published by the BBC. Yousafzai, who started writing them when she was 11 years old, criticized the Taliban for their repressive regime and destruction of girls' schools in the Swat Valley, where she grew up. Her cause started an international movement for education and girls' rights, which recently culminated in a global day of action, "Malala Day."

Malala was named a runner-up for the Time "Person of the Year" award and thousands of supporters have nominated her for next year's Nobel Peace Prize.

"Malala doesn't just represent one young woman, she speaks out for all those who are denied an education purely on the basis of their gender," campaign leader Shahida Choudhary wrote on the Change.org petition she started for Malala's nomination.

Gabby Douglas

gabby douglas

This summer, 16-year-old Gabby Douglas (also known as the "flying squirrel") made history when she became the first African-American woman to win the gold medal in the Women's Gymnastics Individual All-Around during the Olympics in London. Along with the other four members of the "Fab 5," Douglas quickly became an Olympic favorite. She has since been named a 2012 Woman of the Year by Glamour Magazine and was included on Forbes' "30 Under 30" list.

The athlete shared some words of advice for young people at a recent charity event: ?Never give up and always keep fighting, because though times may be tough, the sacrifices do pay off, so just keep pushing towards your dream and just love it at the same time and enjoy it.?

Carly Rose Sonenclar

carly rose sonenclare

Thirteen-year-old singer Carly Rose Sonenclar won over "X Factor" judges -- and became a viral Internet sensation -- with her jaw-droppingly powerful voice. Her soulful first performance of Nina Simone's "Feelin' Good" stunned the judges and racked up nearly 20 million views on YouTube, leading judge Demi Lovato to gush, "I want to buy your music right now."

In a surprising twist of events, Carly Rose did not win the competition and was edged out of the lead by winning country singer Tate Stevens. Still, it's safe to say that a superstar has been born -- and that she has a bright career in the music industry ahead of her.

Samantha Garvey

samantha garvey

Long Island high school student Samantha Garvey was homeless and living in a local shelter when she became a semifinalist in the prestigious Intel Science Competition last year, and her incredible display of strength inspired students and educators across the country. Once her impressive accomplishments began making headlines, donations and support from people across the country started pouring in. Although the aspiring marine biologist did not win the Intel Competition, she was awarded a $50,000 scholarship, invited to attend the State of the Union at the White House, and was even given a new home in Bay Shore, Long Island. Garvey graduated high school this year, and was named one of Business Insider's Most Impressive Kids to Graduate in 2012.

"This is just the most amazing thing you could ask for," Garvey said at a news conference last January, after her family was given rent-subsidized housing by the county.

Tavi Gevinson

tavi gevinson

Feminist, fashion blogger and 15-year-old high school student Tavi Gevinson went from the fashion industry's youngest A-lister to a media mogul in her own right this year. Gevinson, a blogger from Chicago, Illinois, is already a full-blown multimedia phenomenon. She is editor-in-chief of Rookie, an online magazine for teen girls that launched in 2011, editor of the publication's first book, "Rookie: Yearbook 1,? and a social media darling with hundreds of thousands of followers on Twitter and Instagram. She also went on a road trip this year with Rookie, organizing events for Rookie readers around the country, from pajama parties to craft nights.

In a TEDxTeen talk she gave this year, Tavi discussed the process of founding an alternative online space for teenage girls and discovering what feminism means to her, saying: "I realized that feminism was not a rulebook but a discussion, a conversation, a process."

Nick D'Aliosio

nickdaliosio

When London-based 17-year-old tech wizard Nick D'Aliosio -- dubbed the "Internet's Genius Boy" by GigaOM -- created the app Summly, his objective was to revolutionize the way people read news. Summly uses complex algorithms to summarize news stories into chunks of text sized for the iPhone, and has already received over $1 million in funding from investors like Ashton Kutcher and Zynga CEO Mark Pincus. The second version of the news summarization app was released in November -- on his 17th birthday.

?The only way I see my age coming into this is that I?ve built this for my age, my demographic," the young CEO told the Huffington Post.

Harry Styles

harry styles

Okay, so what if he was only under 18 for part of 2012 -- we're still putting him on the list! As one-fifth of the biggest pop culture phenomenon of 2012, One Direction, Styles, who turned 18 on February 1, is the band?s resident ladies man and arguably its most popular member. Styles has not only seemingly won over the hearts of most preteen girls in the universe, but also 23-year-old pop princess Taylor Swift.

Dating life aside, Styles has helped propel the British boy band to the top of the charts -- and to worldwide superstardom, working his way up from "X Factor UK" auditions to playing Madison Square Garden. And beyond One Direction, he's helped spearhead an even larger international trend: The long-awaited return of the boy band.

David Boone

davidboone

Cleveland high school student David Boone's "Homeless to Harvard" story is one of the most inspiring we've heard all year. The aspiring engineer has gone through struggles with gang violence and temporary homelessness (when he was 14, his home was destroyed by gang members) but his troubled past didn't stop him from dreaming of a brighter future.

"All of these life lessons have shaped me into who I am, transforming my dreams and aspirations and allowing me to free myself from what was becoming an unproductive environment," Boone wrote in a HuffPost Teen blog post. After being accepted to over 20 schools, Boone chose to join the freshman class at Harvard University next year.

Emma Axelrod, Elena Tsemberis and Sammi Siegel

axelrod

This spring, three 16-year-olds from New Jersey -- Emma Axelrod, Elena Tsemberis and Sammi Siegel -- launched a petition insisting that a woman should moderate at least one of the presidential debates. In just a few months they garnered over 170,000 signatures, and perhaps partially due to their powerful campaign, female journalists Candy Crowley and Martha Raddatz were chosen to moderate two of the three debates for the first time in 20 years. As the girls wrote on their petition, "Women and men will never be truly equal in our country until they?re one and the same in positions of power and both visible in politics."

Claressa Shields

claressa shields

Gabby Douglas wasn't the only teen athlete who made history at the Olympics this year. Seventeen-year-old Claressa Shields became the first American woman ever to win a boxing gold medal. But before she was setting records in London, the Michigan teen had a troubled childhood, with a brother in prison and father with a criminal record.

"I can't even explain the pain that I had went through, all the people that I had to deal with and just life -- period," she told the Associated Press. "There were people who were telling me I couldn't do this. And whenever somebody doubted me, it always makes me push harder. So thank you ... all the haters."

Julia Bluhm

julia bluhm

Julia Bluhm, 14, started a body image revolution when she launched a high profile petition asking Seventeen Magazine to feature at least one unretouched photo spread each month.

"I've always just known how Photoshop can have a big effect on girls and their body image and how they feel about themselves," Bluhm told the Huffington Post. "You need to see something realistic -- you need to see a reflection of what truly represents a teenage girl nowadays." After Bluhm protested outside the Seventeen offices and her petition made headlines across the country, the magazine promised to "celebrate every kind of beauty" and only feature photos of real girls.

Taylor Wilson

taylor wilson teen physicist

At 14 years old, teen physicist Taylor Wilson became the youngest person ever to create nuclear fission. Now, the talented scientist is in the process of building his own nuclear reactor.

Taylor may be a Ph.D. student, but he's still your typical 17-year-old at heart. The teen told CBS News: "When I hold something that's radioactive, it's kind of an indescribable feeling. It's kind of like when I'm with my girlfriend."

Maude Apatow

maude apatow forbes

This year, 15-year-old Maude Apatow, daughter of director Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann, made a name for herself on Twitter, with over 100,000 people following her quirky, LOL-worthy updates ("Is it possible to swallow your retainer in your sleep?"). She's also as a contributor to hellogiggles.com, where she?s interviewed celebrities and written about her love-hate relationship with Twitter. Oh, and in her free time the ninth grader from Los Angeles also finds time to act -- most recently, in the hit movie ?This is 40,? which also stars her parents and younger sister.

Dad Judd Apatow described the process of working with his daughter to the New York Times: "A few times I pushed Maude to commit more to her performance, and she got mad at me and then did something wonderful."

Adora Svitak

adora svitak

Child prodigy and education crusader Adora Svitak is, at age 15, a published author of essays, poems and two books, TED speaker, activist, and in the words of Diane Sawyer, a "tiny literary giant." She's also a literacy spokesperson, lecturing around the world to spread her passion for reading and writing.

As Svitak wrote in a Huffington Post blog, "To me, us teenagers are at the perfect crossroads of childish naivete and adult realism -- we still believe that problems can be solved, and now we also have the tools and knowledge to solve them."

Stefan Bachmann

stefan

This past September, teen author Stefan Bachmann published the popular children's book, The Peculiar, which he wrote when he was 16. The fantastical novel tells the story of a faery invasion in steampunk Victorian England and has garned critical acclaim since its release.

The LA Times wrote: "Bachmann, who is now 18, writes as if he didn't just read classic books. His prose is so elegantly witty, it's as if he absorbed them and is writing by osmosis."

The young writer is currently studying music at the Zurich Conservatory, where we're hoping he'll find inspiration a second novel!

Katy Butler

katy butler bully

Katy Butler from Plymouth, Michigan knows firsthand how hurtful bullying can be.

"When I was 12, I came out as a lesbian to my best friend and she decided she was going to tell the whole school for me," Butler told The Daily Beast. "Kids ended up walking down the hallway, calling me names, pushing me against walls and into lockers, knocking my books over. Horrible things like that."

This inspired the 17-year-old to start a campaign to get the rating of the documentary, "Bully," changed from R to PG-13. "I think [the movie] could create a big change, and it could potentially save lives if kids are allowed to see it,? she told The Washington Post.

Butler was supported by celebrities like Ellen Degeneres, and her campaign was likely one of the reasons the rating of the film ended up getting changed to PG-13.

Pakistan official: 19 killed in attack on Shiites

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) ? A suicide bomber driving a vehicle packed with explosives rammed into a bus carrying Shiite Muslim pilgrims in southwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing 19 people, a government official and eyewitnesses said.

Earlier Sunday, 21 tribal policemen believed to have been kidnapped by the Taliban were found shot dead in Pakistan's troubled northwest tribal region, government officials said.

Pakistan has experienced a spike in killings over the last year by radical Sunni Muslims targeting Shiites who they consider heretics. The violence has been especially pronounced in Baluchistan province, where the latest attack occurred.

In addition to the 19 people killed in the bombing in Baluchistan's Mastung district, 25 others were wounded, many of them critically, said Tufail Ahmed, a local political official. The blast completely destroyed the bus that was hit and damaged a second bus carrying Shiites that was close by.

An eyewitness who was traveling in the second bus told Pakistan's Geo TV that first bus contained over 40 pilgrims headed to neighboring Iran, a majority Shiite country that is a popular religious tourism destination.

A second eyewitness said the bomber rushed by in a pick-up truck, swerved in front of the first bus and slammed on the brakes. The bus slammed into the pick-up truck and then a big explosion occurred.

Neither of the eyewitnesses provided their names while being interviewed on TV.

Shiites make up around 15 percent of Pakistan's 190 million people. They are scattered around the country, but the province of Baluchistan has the largest community, mainly made up of ethnic Hazaras, easily identified by their facial features which resemble those of Central Asians.

Sunni extremists have long carried out attacks against Shiites in Pakistan. But the sectarian campaign has stepped up in recent years, fueled mainly by the radical group Laskar-e-Jangvhi, aligned to Pakistani Taliban militants headquartered in the tribal region. More than 300 Shiites have been killed in Pakistan this year, according to Human Rights Watch.

The violence has pushed Baluchistan in particular deeper into chaos. The province was already facing an armed insurgency by ethnic Baluch separatists who frequently attack security forces and government facilities. But the secessionist violence has been overtaken by increasingly bold attacks against Shiites.

The sectarian bloodletting adds another layer to the turmoil in Pakistan, where the government is fighting an insurgency by the Pakistani Taliban and where many fear Sunni hardliners are gaining strength. Shiites and rights group say the government does little to protect Shiites and that militants are emboldened because they are believed to have links to Pakistan's intelligence agencies.

The 21 tribal policemen who were shot dead were found by officials shortly after midnight Sunday in the Jabai area of Frontier Region Peshawar after being notified by one policeman who escaped, said Naveed Akbar Khan, a top political official in the area. Another policeman was found seriously wounded, said Khan.

The 23 policemen went missing before dawn Thursday when militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons attacked two posts in Frontier Region Peshawar. Two policemen were also killed in the attacks.

Militants lined the policemen up on a cricket pitch late Saturday night and gunned them down, said another local official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

Also Sunday, two Pakistani army soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in the North Waziristan tribal area, the main sanctuary for Taliban and al-Qaida militants in the country, security officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with official policy.

(AP) ? "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" continues to rule them all at the box office, staying on top for a third-straight week and capping a record-setting $10.8 billion year in moviegoing.

The Warner Bros. fantasy epic from director Peter Jackson, based on the beloved J.R.R. Tolkien novel, made nearly $33 million this weekend, according to Sunday studio estimates, despite serious competition from some much-anticipated newcomers. It's now made a whopping $686.7 million worldwide and $222.7 million domestically alone.

Two big holiday movies ? and potential Academy Awards contenders ? also had strong openings. Quentin Tarantino's spaghetti Western-blaxploitation mash-up "Django Unchained" came in second place for the weekend with $30.7 million. The Weinstein Co. revenge comedy, starring Jamie Foxx as a slave in the Civil War South and Christoph Waltz as the bounty hunter who frees him and then makes him his partner, has earned $64 million since its Christmas Day opening.

And in third place with $28 million was the sweeping, all-singing "Les Miserables," based on the international musical sensation and the Victor Hugo novel of strife and uprising in 19th century France. The Universal Pictures film, with a cast of A-list actors singing live on camera led by Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe has made $67.5 million domestically and $116.2 worldwide since debuting on Christmas.

Additionally, the smash-hit James Bond adventure "Skyfall" has now made $1 billion internationally to become the most successful film yet in the 50-year franchise, Sony Pictures announced Sunday. The film stars Daniel Craig for the third time as the iconic British superspy.

"This is a great final weekend of the year," said Paul Dergarabedian, an analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com. "How perfect to end this year on such a strong note with the top five films performing incredibly well."

The week's other new wide release, the Billy Crystal-Bette Midler comedy "Parental Guidance" from 20th Century Fox, made $14.8 million over the weekend for fourth place and $29.6 million total since opening on Christmas.

Dergarabedian described the holding power of "The Hobbit" in its third week as "just amazing." Jackson shot the film, the first of three prequels to his massively successful "Lord of the Rings" series, in 48 frames per second ? double the normal frame rate ? for a crisper, more detailed image. It's also available in the usual 24 frames per second and both 2-D and 3-D projections.

"I think people are catching up with the movie. Maybe they're seeing it in multiple formats," he said. "I think it's just a big epic that feels like a great way to end the moviegoing year. There's momentum there with this movie."

"Django Unchained" is just as much of an epic in its own stylishly violent way that's quintessentially Tarantino. Erik Lomis, The Weinstein Co.'s president of theatrical distribution, said the opening exceeded the studio's expectations.

"We're thrilled with it, clearly. We knew it was extremely competitive at Christmas, particularly when you look at the start 'Les Miz' got. We were sort of resigned to being behind them. The fact that we were able to overtake them over the weekend was just great," Lomis said. "Taking nothing away from their number, it's a tribute to the playability of 'Django.'"

"Les Miserables" went into its opening weekend with nearly $40 million in North American grosses, including $18.2 on Christmas Day. That's the second-best opening ever on the holiday following "Sherlock Holmes," which made $24.9 million on Christmas 2009. Tom Hooper, in a follow-up to his Oscar-winner "The King's Speech," directs an enormous, ambitious take on the beloved musical which has earned a CinemaScore of "A'' from audiences and "A-plus" from women.

Nikki Rocco, Universal's head of distribution, said the debut for "Les Miserables" also beat the studio's expectations.

"That $18.2 million Christmas Day opening ? people were shocked ... This is a musical!" she said. "Once people see it, they talk about how fabulous it is."

It all adds up to a record-setting year at the movies, beating the previous annual record of $10.6 billion set in 2009. Dergarabedian pointed out that the hits came scattered throughout the year, not just during the summer blockbuster season or prestige-picture time at the end. "Contraband," ''Safe House" and "The Vow" all performed well early on, but then when the big movies came, they were huge. "The Avengers" had the biggest opening ever with $207.4 million in May. The raunchy comedy "Ted" and comic-book behemoth "The Dark Knight Rises" both found enormous audiences. And Paul Thomas Anderson's challenging drama "The Master" shattered records in September when it opened on five screens in New York and Los Angeles with $736,311, for a staggering per-screen average of $147,262.

"We were able to get this record without scratching and clawing to a record," he said.

I've had sinus & allergy problems all my life; my doc 1ce told me sinus problems are common in this part of Louisiana. I've moved to Vermont a couple months ago & my sinus problems got a lot better there. I came back down to spend the holidays with my family & my sinus problems are coming back with a vengeance; I think I must of built up some kind of tolerance & I lost that by being gone for a while. My sinuses have gradually been getting worse sense I've been back. My nose is running aLOT, I'm sneezing some, my eyes are getting watery & itchy at times, I had a sinus headache for a bit yesterday with sinus pressure, I also started occasionally coughing, spitting up a little stuff & feeling a little itchy. I started taking Allegra. It helps some but the improvement only last for like 8 hours instead of lasting for 24 like it's supposed to & the amount of improvement for those 8 hours isn't huge. My doc gave me some samples of Zyrtec a few months ago when I was seeing him for something else & Zyrtec didn't help me a lot either. I've been on various other over the counter & also prescription sinus & allergy meds in the past. I don't remember getting a lot of improvement from any 2nd generation antihistamines; I don't think they are powerful enough for me. Benadryl makes me a little hyper & I don't think I get a great improvement with that either. The only meds I know that have helped me a lot were oral prescription steroid things. I'll be heading back to Vermont in another week so I think I should try another med to hold me over till then. Could anyone suggest something that isn't a 2nd generation antihistamine; perhaps a 1st gen one or an oral steroid(if there's anything like that available without a prescription) or something else Question

If you don't mind putting down your driver's license, you can get straight pseudoephedrine (or combined with loratadine/alegra) from the pharmacist, w/o a prescription; that will dry out your sinuses, but not help with the itchiness.

If you don't mind seeing a doc, try to get a referral to a rheumatologist; they might be able to get you something stronger/more focused on what your body is doing.

(AP) ? Texas Tech has had a difficult month since coach Tommy Tuberville left abruptly for the job at Cincinnati.

The struggles continued on Friday night, and the Red Raiders trailed Minnesota by a touchdown with just more than a minute left in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

That was when seniors D.J. Johnson and Seth Doege came through with big plays to help Texas Tech to a 34-31 win.

After Doege connected with Eric Ward on a 35-yard scoring play to pull the Red Raiders even at 31 with just more than a minute remaining, Johnson returned an interception 39 yards and Ryan Bustin made a 28-yard field goal as time expired to give the Red Raiders the win.

"We've overcome a lot of adversity," Johnson said. "To end my last play like that is a blessing."

Michael Carter intercepted two of Doege's passes in the fourth quarter before the tying score, but Minnesota couldn't convert either of the turnovers into points.

"Things weren't always going our way ... but we kept fighting and put ourselves in a position to win the game," Doege said.

The Red Raiders (8-5) got their third straight bowl victory to end their trying season on a high note.

Texas Tech has hired Kliff Kingsbury to replace Tuberville, but interim coach Chris Thomsen led the team against Minnesota (6-7). Kingsbury was at the game, watching from a suite.

Doege threw for 271 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score in front of a crowd that included 1977 Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell and former Tech coach Spike Dykes.

"More than anything I credit those players," Thomsen said of Johnson and Doege. "They really held it together ... to get to make those plays after they struggled. They kept their poise and confidence and continued to stay in there and battle."

Philip Nelson threw for 138 yards and two scores for the Gophers, who were in a bowl game for the first time since 2009.

"I think our kids played hard tonight; they played their guts out, and I appreciate that," Minnesota coach Jerry Kill said. "We just couldn't make a play at a critical time."

The Red Raiders returned to a bowl after having their 18-season bowl streak snapped last year.

A 1-yard touchdown pass from Nelson to Drew Goodger gave Minnesota a 31-24 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Texas Tech led 24-17 at halftime, but couldn't do anything offensively in the second half until the last couple of minutes. It was an ugly game for the Red Raiders, who had 13 penalties for 135 yards and lost the tight end Jace Amaro when he was ejected for throwing a punch.

Jakeem Grant ran for what was initially ruled a touchdown for Tech late in the third quarter. Amaro threw a punch at Derrick Wells in the end zone on the play and was ejected.

After the penalty, the play was reviewed and overturned. Doege threw an incomplete pass before Tech made a 32-yard field goal. But the Red Raiders had a false start penalty on the play and had to kick again and this time the Gophers blocked it.

Nelson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Devin Crawford-Tufts, who was left uncovered in the end zone, to tie it 24-all early in the third quarter.

Donnell Kirkwood scored on a 3-yard run to leave Minnesota up 17-14 early in the second quarter.

Texas Tech had a first-and-goal at the Minnesota 2 after a pass-interference call on the Gophers. But Texas Tech had to settle for a field goal after a rush for a 3-yard loss and two penalties.

Minnesota's next drive started out well before turning ugly. The Gophers had made two first downs before MarQueis Gray was sacked for a loss of 7 yards. Kirkwood ran for 17 yards on the next play, but Minnesota received two 15-yard penalties on the play, one for a personal foul on lineman Zac Epping, to make it second-and-42. Epping received a second personal foul penalty on the next play to bring up third-and-49.

"We just made some errors that I wish we hadn't made," Kill said.

Christian Eldred shanked the punt, giving Texas Tech the ball at the Minnesota 42.

The Red Raiders capitalized on their great field position when Doege spun away from a defender in the backfield and leaped over another Gopher near the goal line on a 4-yard touchdown run. Tech converted a fourth-and-6 play on that drive, and led 24-17 at halftime.

Minnesota's Rodrick Williams Jr. scored on a 2-yard run to give the Gophers a 10-7 lead in the first quarter.

Doege lost his helmet on a 5-yard scramble on Tech's next drive and had to go out for one play. He was replaced by Michael Brewer, who found Derreck Edwards for a 13-yard touchdown pass to give the Red Raiders a 14-10 lead.

Minnesota's Troy Stoudermire returned the opening kickoff 26 yards to break the NCAA record for career kickoff return yards. He finished the game with 111 yards to push his total to 3,615.

The Gophers ended that drive with a 41-yard field goal to make it 3-0.

Texas Tech's Grant returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to put Texas Tech up 7-3.

Reach Your Target Customers With These Web Marketing Tips ...

Affiliate marketing is helpful for companies in the promotion of services and products, and is used instead of, or in addition to, traditional marketing methods, such as television and print media. For more inspiration and ideas on marketing your business online, read on!

One tip webmasters forget is to keep their sites simple. Interactive media like Adobe Flash can be tempting when designing your website, and website designers might try to convince you to use it. Make it simple enough for everyone to use! A website does not need to have a bunch of crazy features, as long as it is efficient and user-friendly.

Reward those people that buy things from you. Make sure that you keep your current customers, as they will provide a lot of value over time. When customers feel appreciated, they pass the information about your business to new potential customers.

TIP! Do not use the same tactics or content as others if you wish to use Internet marketing well. Not only is unique content more effective with site visitors, but it also ranks better in search results.

While having a profile on every social networking site available seems like a good idea, remember that each of these profiles takes time and effort to make it a profitable venture. When profiles are not updated regularly, people start to view them as being spam.

Give your customers a variety of specials to choose from at the check-out page. A customer can add another product for a discount as a thank you. This is a good way to get rid of old stock, and your customer will feel valued.

Consider marketing your website as some sort of social club or gathering rather than a simple business website. This can hep build traffic to your website as customers come back to interact with others. This helps to keep your site at the front of people?s minds. Give people graphics they can use on their websites to advertise their memberships; it?s free advertising.

TIP! Find some type of service that you can provide free to users of your site. A lot of people will visit your site because of the free product or contest you are offering.

Before you focus on building your web business, you first need to focus on the particular niche you?ll be catering to. For example, you aren?t going to successfully sell sports cards to a person who is interested in vintage Star Wars memorabilia. The main thing to keep in mind is that you cannot sell your product to someone who is looking for something else. Market accordingly, since you do not want to attract the wrong audience.

Website marketing is, in the end, something that can help you, no matter what sort of business you?re in. It is possible to use Online marketing to promote services and products, rather than relying on print and television advertising. Keep the tips you just read in mind when you develop your Internet marketing strategy.
