The gold medalists are at Citizens Business Bank Arena today as part of the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions.
"This tour is a celebration," said the 16-year-old Douglas, who also won the individual all-around championship. "It's our chance to connect with the fans, to show them things they've never seen before.
"We've got a lot of surprises for them in the show."
The athletes' 40-city tour ends Nov. 18. The quintet and other tourmates said the event is far from traditional competitions that tend to be stiff and structured. This one, they said, is a high-energy extravaganza that combines their skills with dance, aerial acrobatics, trampoline and even a bit of humor.
Neon lights will flash, strobe and illuminate the arena to the beat of modern-day music.
"We have all worked really hard on this amazing show," said 18-year-old Raisman, who also won gold in the floor exercise and a bronze medal on the balance beam. "We are having so much fun. We are so much more relaxed.
"It is so much different than the Olympics, where the pressure is high and the spotlight is always on you."
The show's musical choreography incorporates dance and gymnastics, creating a hybrid
possible only with the skill level of the talented performers."The Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions is a celebration of our sport," Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics, said in a prepared statement. "It provides the perfect stage for Americans to celebrate and welcome our Olympians home from winning six medals at the 2012 Olympic Games in London."
Other athletes performing tonight include 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin, 2012 Olympic team members John Orozco and Jake Dalton, 2008 Olympic silver medalist Jonathan Horton, Chellsie Memmel and Alicia Sacramone.
"The entire country watched these amazing athletes reach their full potential as they competed in London," said Doug VanDeVelde, Kellogg Company executive in a press release. "We are honored to help bring their amazing performances to fans in cities across the U.S. as these athletes continue to inspire us all and demonstrate how great starts lead to great things."
Fans also can learn about the athletes' beginnings through a series of online "Start Story" videos that follow their journeys, which can be viewed at Kelloggs.com/teamusa.
"I have been so inspired by others; I want to be an inspiration," Douglas said. "I want to encourage everyone to have a dream and to give that dream all you've got.
"It's not about the money. It's not about the fame. It's not about the glory. It's about passing down the belief of achieving your dreams. Set your goals high then work hard to achieve them.
"With hard work and a belief in yourself they can come true. They will come true."
